Vicki BrownLife Goes On

On July 4, 2015, my husband and I were involved in a horrific fatal boat accident caused by a drunk boater. My husband and I sustained several injuries, including the loss of my right arm above the elbow. My life was forever changed that night, but I am grateful to be alive. It definitely has not been the journey I wanted, but I have embraced it and have overcome many struggles, challenges, and fears because of this journey. Becoming an amputee has made me stronger, and I see life in a whole new way. I think I am a little bit stubborn and don’t give up, but I often find it kind of a fun challenge to figure out how to accomplish something, especially when someone tells me I can’t. … If there’s a will, there’s a way! Life has challenges for everyone, and you need to adjust your sails and adapt to all the obstacles.

The thing I am most grateful for … is the community of family, friends, and amputees who have become part of my story since the accident. I feel like losing my arm was tragic, but this journey has brought so many blessings in my life!

Life goes on …
