I have been bilateral AK for 32 years. Things were primitive back then and after wearing very uncomfortable prosthetics for about 10 years back and forth to work, I stopped wearing any at all. I spent 20 more years in just my wheelchair. I had trouble with my back and thought getting foreshortened prosthetics would help me stretch out those muscles. I looked on the Amputee Coalition’s website and it led me to Achilles Prosthetics and Orthotics and Peter Buffington. He’s the best! In November 2020, we began a new journey starting with stubbies and now I’m learning to walk on my RHEO XC by Össur. It’s been amazing and I’m learning so much! I currently go to physical therapy at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
