Every year our popular conference clinics serve as a great introduction to a variety of adaptive activities that can enhance your life. Guided by trained professionals, attendees will discover new interests and gain confidence as they expand their idea of what’s possible post-amputation. Recently added to the list of returning favorites are two brand-new offerings for 2023: First Row and Adaptive Martial Arts! Even if you’ve never tried these sports before, we encourage you to keep an open mind – you may come away with a fun and beneficial new hobby. Learn more about each of the new clinics below.
- First Row Clinic (Thursday, August 3, 8:00 am – 12:00 noon)
Made possible by the Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation (OPAF), the First Row Clinic will increase your endurance and improve your awareness through proper fitness techniques for rowing. Learn how to safely enter and exit a boat, seated positioning, as well as proper techniques and form for rowing, including how to hold the oar through adaptive strategies. - Adaptive Martial Arts Clinic (Thursday, August 3 – Saturday, August 5, 7:00-8:00 am)
Participants will have three opportunities to learn Taekwon-Do techniques from Master Michelle Golino-Crisco (Master G). This inclusive clinic includes a variety of physical, intellectual, and developmental lessons that increase coordination, focus, body awareness, and social skills. Master G. will teach you techniques to protect yourself from acts of violence and aggression.
