The Amputee Coalition kicks off its annual celebration of Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month starting April 1. In 2010, the Amputee Coalition began LLLDAM to raise awareness about the limb loss and limb difference community. We invite you to celebrate with us from April 1-30. This year’s theme is “Inspire to Elevate.”
More than 2.7 million people in the United States live with limb loss or limb difference. Hundreds of people lose a limb every day. By 2050, the number of amputees in the U.S. is expected to nearly double. Limb loss affects people of all backgrounds, all income levels, and all ages. During April, we want to demonstrate how our community thrives.
We ask people to elevate our community by telling their stories, advocating for their needs, and educating others to help make sure no amputee is alone. You can recognize Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month in many ways! Our theme includes weekly opportunities to elevate everything we do as a community.
- Elevate Your Story: Tell people about what inspired you to elevate through our #WeTHRIVE campaign.
- Elevate Your Voice: Learn how to advocate on behalf of the community to legislators and others who can bring about change.
- Elevate Your Community: Get involved and inspire others to get involved to make sure no amputee is alone.
- Elevate Your Potential: Empower yourself to live your best life.
