Equip Yourself for Greater Impact With New Workshops and Training Sessions

Feb 8, 2023 |

We will be in Washington, DC, for the 2023 Advocacy ForumApril 16-19. Join us in the heart of our nation’s capital to Elevate Your Voice on behalf of the 2.7 million Americans living with limb loss or limb difference. On the final day of the Advocacy Forum, you will have the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops and trainings, each designed to equip you in your next steps. Learn more below about some of the sessions that will be offered.

  • Support Group 101
Join Susan Tipton, our peer support coordinator, to learn how to start a support group in your city. Gain skills to engage with your community, identify key players, and create a successful support group. Learn different approaches to running in-person and virtual groups. Stop in and learn how to create an exciting new space and safe environment for people with limb loss and limb difference near you.
  • TeaTime Live: Drop in, Network, Share
The Amputee Coalition regularly hosts TeaTime, virtual meetings held twice a month for certified peer visitors and support group leaders. We encourage active and interested parties to attend this in-person TeaTime session. This will be a collaborative and team-driven session where attendees will drive the conversation and provide insight on topics from other community members.
  • Breaking Into Workforce Development
This hourlong training/workshop session includes an overview of the Amputee Coalition’s Workforce Development Program. Learn more about the programs and services offered through vocational rehabilitation, and participate in an informative Q&A session.
  • Finding Your Voice: Career Pathways Workshop
Curious about navigating a career with a disability? Join AC staff members Trenaya Reid, Ryan Geddie, and Lucas DeLuca as they discuss their career journeys while living with a disability. This session will give attendees practical insight into various career paths, accommodation needs, and resources to succeed in any workplace. Feel free to bring a resume, cover letter, or personal story you would like to share or review.
  • Introduction to the Coalition’s Care2 Program
Whether you are a physical therapist, work in an administrative role at an O&P clinic, engage in a community-facing role for a device manufacturer, or anything in between, Care2 is the Amputee Coalition’s new program designed to provide you with guidance and training to center your work on individuals who have experienced limb loss or were born with limb difference, their family members, and/or caregivers. As a result of the many inquiries about how healthcare professionals might be able to serve in support roles, we have developed the Care2 Certificate Program. Please join Ashlie White, chief programs officer at the Amputee Coalition, and Dana Glover, director of operations at O&P Insight, for the program launch and learn more about how you can become Care2 Certified.
