Amputee Coalition Releases “Conquer” Public Service Announcement
(April 14, 2023, Washington, D.C.) The Amputee Coalition recently released a national television public service announcement titled “Conquer” to highlight the many ways people living with limb loss and limb difference meet challenges and overcome barriers every day. The 30-second video is one of five PSAs as part of the organization’s year-round #InspireToElevate campaign that raises awareness about limb loss and limb difference.
The new television spot features prominent amputees, including Amputee Coalition Executive Board Chair John Register, Paralympic athletes Femita Ayanbeku and Jessica Heims, actress Zyra Gorecki, television writer and producer Brandon Sonnier, and U.S. para-athlete Gary Weiland. It encourages people living with limb loss and limb difference to visit www.amputee-coalition.org to access resources and tools that can help them live well.
“There’s no reason your life has to end with an amputation,” Register says.
“I became an amputee. It was an on-set accident that came out of nowhere, and it changed my life forever,” Sonnier says.
“In the U.S., over 2 million people live with limb loss or limb difference,” Heims says.
“When we share our stories with others, it allows other people to elevate their own story,” Register says.
“People want me to say my biggest challenge was my limb, but it wasn’t. My biggest challenge was my own brain,” Gorecki says.
“We at the Amputee Coalition are here to help,” Ayanbeku says.
“On the hard days, we’re here for you,” Sonnier says.
