As we reflect on everything we’ve accomplished during this year’s Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month and Advocacy Forum, we recognize that it wouldn’t be possible without hardworking advocates like you! Tammie Higginbotham is one such advocate who helped secure a signed gubernatorial proclamation from the governor of Illinois–bringing our known count to 10. Our advocacy efforts are all about driving greater awareness for our community, and we celebrate how you’ve taken the initiative!

We also want to thank our incredible advocates who attended our in-person Advocacy Education and Hill Day in Washington, DC, on April 17 and 18. We welcomed 28 advocates from across the country to the Amputee Coalition’s national office for training in preparation for sharing their stories at the Capitol.
In-person attendees heard from Cass Isidro, president and CEO, and Board Chair John Register. Partners from the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association and the National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics & Prosthetics were on-site to discuss the advocacy landscape. Lead advocate Kyle Stepp joined Amputee Coalition staff members Whitney Doyle, Lucas DeLuca, and Ryan Geddie to share advocacy stories. Participants also learned about using social media to advance their advocacy efforts. After engaging in policy awareness discussions with the Government Relations team, advocates participated in mock sessions to practice sharing their stories ahead of Hill Day.
We are excited to share that the group had 29 meetings with members of Congress’ staffs on Hill Day scheduled by the Government Relations team.
We are proud of all the accomplishments you’ve had this month and all you will continue to accomplish. Your time and dedication are producing results! Remember, advocacy does not end here; it is up to each of us to carry it forward daily.
