Young Amputees Eligible for Softball Camp

Mar 1, 2023 |

The USA Patriots softball team is recruiting 20 players ages 8-12 who have limb loss or limb difference to participate in its annual Kids Camp this summer in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The Patriots, who were formerly called the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, consist of veterans who are members of the limb loss and limb difference community. Their mission “is to bring athletic and like-minded veteran amputees together to promote the benefits of inclusive sport and therapeutic recreational activities, to inspire motivated communities of people, to support children with physical challenges, and to operate as a vehicle that offers national opportunities for continued service to our country.”

The team’s largest program is the Kids Camp, which brings players from around the country together with all expenses paid. The 2023 camp is scheduled for July 23-29.

The Patriots players instruct and mentor the campers, teaching them softball skills, life lessons, and adaptive techniques. If you have a player who could benefit from this experience, you can begin the process here.

NorthJersey.com recently reported on the camp.

“They teach resilience and they show, here is a guy with no legs who is able to play softball,” said Jim Oettinger of Closter Parks and Recreation in New Jersey. “It’s very uplifting.”
