Amputee Coalition Announces Chief Strategy & Communications Officer

(March 31, 2023, Washington, D.C.) The Amputee Coalition announced Jerrica Thurman as its new chief strategy and communications officer. She leads the information technology, communications, development, and events initiatives for the organization. Her focus is to increase awareness of limb loss and limb difference, expand the organization’s reach, and grow engagement opportunities that advance national efforts to serve people living with limb loss and limb difference.During her nearly two-year tenure at the Amputee Coalition, Jerrica has played an instrumental role in reimagining the organization’s direction and realigning the execution of the deliverables for its Administration for Community Living grant. Under her leadership, she has grown new departments with internal and external staff, redesigned National Conference, and developed AC Connect, a new online community for people living with limb loss and limb difference. As the chief strategy and communications officer, she will continue to lead new initiatives and growth opportunities.

Having worked in nonprofits for over 20 years, Jerrica’s career began in television broadcasting at NBC 10 WCAU. She went on to lead high-impact marketing and communications strategies for driving brand reach and engagement and strengthening brand reputations for mission-focused organizations. She is a writer and editor with over 200+ published articles.

Jerrica completed undergraduate studies in communications at Oakwood University and received a master’s degree in communications management and a certificate of strategic public relations and integrated communications from Towson University, and an MBA from Frostburg State University. She also studied business in China at Hunan Normal University. In 2018, she obtained the certified association executive (CAE) credential provided by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

She served as a board member of the Literacy Council of Montgomery County, MD, and a member of Public Relations Society of America, American Society of Association Executives, Society of Adventist Communicators, Association of Fundraising Professionals, Learning First Alliance, Coalition of Education Association Publications, and Toastmasters International.

In her role, Jerrica will drive organizational reach and awareness by cultivating strategic partnerships, enhancing communications quality assurance processes, and liaising with senior leaders, corporate partners, and cross-functional teams to ensure the organization’s effectiveness in supporting people with limb loss and limb difference.
